Do we really know God?

Jeremiah 4:22 (NIV)
“My people are fools;
they do not know me.
They are senseless children;
they have no understanding.
They are skilled in doing evil;
they know not how to do good.”
Who is the Lord referring to?
I believe the main point here is "they do not know me" which leads to the rest of this observation. I believe it is to those professed Christians who follow only religious systems and not the Spirit of Christ. Do I always do this, obviously not; many are the times I look back and realized my foolishness and am embarrassed by what I believed about God, Of course if we listen to and obey the Spirit of Christ in our hearts instead of what we are told to believe we would avoid these pitfalls. This is not easy swimming up the stream of religious teachings but we must listen to our hearts for this is where Christ speaks to us. I am not saying all that we are taught by our religious leaders is wrong but there are times when there is a definite tension in our heart and mind when we hear certain supposed truths taught. There is a check in our heart and we should check it out for ourselves.Have I perfected this, or arrived? No, but I'm working on it. How about you?
Peace,
D.D. Caldwell
