Are all bad things that happen to us from the devil and were never Gods doing or will?
Does God bring bad things in our life to teach us a lesson?
These two questions have weighed heavily on the mind of many that have pondered the ways of God. There seems to be a conflict of ideas here. I really used to struggle with these two philosophies myself. Although now I see them in a different light after much study with the foundation for all my conclusions to be that God is Omnipotent, Omniscient, Omnipresent, Sovereign over all, loves all, and shows no partiality at all. I really have come to believe that God is Good all the time whether we realize it at the time or not. The Bible states all these conclusions as fact concerning the attributes and nature of God. So we have to accept them as truth which never changes. If any teaching , idea thought, or church doctrine causes God to come short in any one of these characteristics or attributes then it “CANNOT” be true. Here is a thought that came to me as I prayerfully contemplated these things; I believe it was from the Holy Spirit.
Have “you” ever had to discipline your children and said “I really don’t want to do this”? So it was your will from one way of thinking but still at the same time it was not your will in another way of thinking. Well what you had to do and did was not your “supreme will” but being a good parent you had to act out of your “present will” for the good of the child even though it would not seem so to the child. So in this incident it was not the discipline itself or the tool used to bring about the disciplines needed results. But the necessary action of your will in using the disciplinary tool or allowing it to be used to accomplish the needed out come for the good of the child. Therefore it was an act of love and goodwill on your part toward the child regardless of the child’s or your feelings at the time.
These trials we endure are to be understood in light of God although being Sovereign and Omnipotent, is acting out of the Omniscient mind of God; seeing and knowing all things from beginning to end at all times and working for the good of each one within the circumstances of our life that we played a part in bringing about. We are not completely blameless here; we do have free will to a point; and sometimes we don’t use it too wisely. Although our free will could never overrule Gods Sovereign will otherwise He would not really be sovereign. In other words if God said he would save you, He will save you regardless of your resistance or your choosing not to be. It is the will of God that ALL will be saved and He will bring this about in whatever way it takes to accomplish it; some of that will depend on your willingness to obey the will of God which will be a much easier path; or your resistance and stubbornness to follow what you know to be right which will of course bring about the above situation which will not be as comfortable for you; or God for that matter. But He is a good father and will do what is best for His children.
So that leads me to the “Universal Salvation” verse for the day which is a very good example and similar situation to what I have been discussing here.
Here is a man that had actually been committing incest and it is brought to the Apostle Paul’s attention. Paul knew and taught more than any other biblical writer that God would save all mankind; having been the only apostle given the full revelation of the plan and redemptive purposes of God. Here is what is answer was to those who had brought this problem to him to deal with.
1Co 5:5 NIV hand this man over to Satan, so that the sinful nature (flesh) may be destroyed and “HIS SPIRIT SAVED” on the day of the Lord.
You see Satan is not all powerful and almost equal with God as some suppose. God is not in a battle with Satan; if he were it would not last two seconds. Satan is just another tool in the hand of the Almighty God who created him and has all things under His control and uses them within their particular nature and inclinations for His own Good Will.
And so ALL MANKIND WILL BE SAVED; it is just which path you choose to take that will determine how comfortable you will be on the way. Did God know beforehand what you would do? You bet he did. Did that make Him responsible? In one way yes, being almighty; but then he used his divinity to bring about your salvation in the end. Does that mean you’re not responsible? No way, you’re not getting out that easy; God will not be mocked,; you will reap what you sow….
Peace, Grace, and Love to you,
